The Chesapeake Bay is the major east coast spawning grounds of the Striped Bass, also known as Rockfish or Stripper. The Rockfish population neared collapse in the 1980’s from overfishing and habitat loss. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of sportsmen, resource managers, and legislators the population recovered and is cited as one of the greatest conservation success stories of the century. Maryland allows a trophy season each spring to enable anglers from around the world to experience the quality of this fishery. Minimum size for this season is 28" but fish to 55" are common with one fish daily bag limit. Charters troll the main channel edges in the bay to intercept migrating strippers. This tournament will give the participants a chance to see the Bay as they seek their Trophy. Prizes will be given for largest fish (either kept or released) and most fish caught (kept and released).
Six pack "make up" charters (5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) will be organized for those participating with pick up and return at the Hilton Baltimore to the docks in Deal, Md. Lunch and drinks provided or participants may set up their own charters from any place in the Bay. No License, or tackle is required for six packs.
